So then, the actual (original) meaning of the word pedo/phile would be descriptive of one who felt generalized, nonsexual love for children? I would think everyone would be proud to be called a pedophile! I have heard philios described as "brotherly" love also, which seems to fit.

How about pederast, then? Is that derived from eros? That would be what people mean when they accuse me of being a pedophile.

I know it is pointless to tell people that they are using the terms incorrectly, but what gets interesting to me is that the Greeks were able to separate the two character types and had names for them. I wonder if they had another term for one who would cause injury to a child through sexual abuse?

Our society has these character attributes all mixed up together.
