You have put your finger on a problem that I have struggled with for a long time. I do know however, that my life works better when I allow god into it. I'm not sure that Christianity is the only path to god, but at least I think that he is the most direct and best paved highway. By christianity I mean trying our best to live life in as christ like manner as possible. There are many many people who can quote chapter and verse much better than I, who however, just don't seem to have a clue as to the true essience of christianity. On the other hand, perhaps the most christian (christ like) person of the 20th century was not even a christian, but a Hindu.
I can not prove if god invented man, or if man invented god. i do think however, that if man did create god, it was perhaps his best invention ever. The is some archelogical evidence that the events discribed in the gospels did take place, but it is inconclusive. Unfortunately, 2000 years have elapsed, and those years included many years where records were wontonly distroyed, over a millenia or rule by a people not particularly interested in preserving the record of his life, and many wars fought in the land where it all took place.
