It's such a HUGE question which takes a lot of work to answer, and with most of my books and notes tucked away in storage, it's hard for me to answer in the way I would like to... but I'll see what I can come up with. For now, off the top of my head this evening, the Bible reveals its authority to me through how well the books of the Bible complement each other, its preservation throughout the ages (also displaying the sovereignty of God to make sure it was available in the common world language of the time -- Greek, then Latin, then English), its incredible prophetic accuracy, its truths regarding the way we should live (including consequences for going contrary to the Word), its way of speaking to me whenever I pick it up, its confirmation of my own experiences of salvation and interaction with the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts (including immediate miraculous healings with my own prayers in the name of Jesus and its power over evil spirits manifesting thru others), its evidences of truths in the lives of others I've known.... and on and on, really. Usually I keep quiet about a lot of things I've experienced lest I be stereotyped and unfairly defined and be placed in some kind of "box" by others. I usually wait for the right situation to share certain aspects of my life's experiences. To tell you the truth, I'm really not interested in getting into a debate over each point I bring up. I've done this many times before and it's exhausting, consuming my energy and taking my time from doing other things I probably should be doing instead. It does feel like you're asking us to lay all our cards on the table first so you know how to better play your hand. Not that it really makes a difference. Anyway, I'll do what I can for the moment and see where that leads... another post coming soon. |
