It was a HUGE revelation for me! I had been in churches all my life and heard the Gospel-story many times, but no one showed me the prophecies contained in the Psalms. It gave me chills to read the words of Jesus on the cross in a book that had been written a thousand (or more) years earlier. And I still can't get over the words in Isaiah, "he was bruised for our transgressions... by his stripes we are healed." WOW! We always see these pictures of a weak and weary Jesus being taken down off the cross with Mary wiping the sweat from his brow, but the Bible says that Jesus was beaten so bad that you couldn't tell if he was human. I wonder what went through the minds of Old Testament writers like David and Isaiah when these things were revealed to them by God. Undoubtedly they were saved by faith the moment they believed (with their salvation eventually becoming complete with Jesus' death/sacrifice on the cross and their being led out of "Abraham's bosom" (death/hades) thru Jesus' victory). It's bad enough reading Jesus' words after the fact, when it's all been done... but can you imagine what it must've been like to read the words of the Lord about his suffering, torture, being mocked, and his death long BEFORE it ever happened!! gives me chills.
