Yes, it really looks as though the Christian right have a lot of power over in America. I see your point. We don't hear much about it over this side of the Atlantic, and there isn't really a Christian right to speak of over here anyway. Sorry for seeming ignorant (or parochial, if you think being British is being parochial).

The Christian right may be big, but it's not the only story. Follow some of the links from this forum's links page, such as www.whosoever.org. There are plenty of Christians arguing for full rights, even if they don't have as much power.

The right to marry a same-sex partner is already granted in some European countries, and I think it's going to happen in Britain before it happens in America. To get a feel for public attitudes in England, have a look at this news story from last week:
