I have found the same part of Scripture (the Apocalypse chapter 18), but have come up with a different interpretation.

What if the city of Babylon is the World Trade Center, which employed enough people all by itself to be considered a city all by its little lonesome? Then it would be the concentration on the concerns of investments and our IRA and Fannie Maes and so forth and our concerns not so much for the desires of God for the poor and dispossesed, but for our own riches and luxuries and COINVENIENCE that is important.

Even today, the Saturday after the attack on the WTC, there are shows on the local "Christian" channel that talks about how "God wants you to be rich" PTL, 700 Club, Jerry Falwell (blaming everybody but himself)concentrates on how "God will bless" you if you send in money to this address or that.

Even among the vocal Christians on TV, their concern is for money and how the individual Christian should "invest for the LOrd" for their personal agrandisment. I haven't heard anyone except Billy Graham say that we as a a nation should repent of our selfishness and self-centered thinking.

This is not my understanding of Christianity: the giving of oneself to others because Christ gave Himself for humanity. Needless to say, I have not given any money to these sites or shows, except to the Moral Majority "to lower the Age of Consent for males to 6" simply to get rid of their unwanted junk mail. (Hey, they asked what my most vital concern was, so I told them something that they would never accept. They did cash my check though.)

I'm afraid I'm not making much sense. since I've been drinking wine all afternoon. It's been like this all week sicne Tuesday. This is about the only way I've been able to cope with what happened on Tuesday. I'll try to repost when I'm sober.
