...the media is doing a good job of making us aware of the humanitarian cost of the threat of military action against Afghanistan. We are seeing pictures of thousands of refugees coming out of Afghanistan into Pakistan; up to a million are expected. One of the opposition leaders has called on the government to drop food rather than bombs. Even the Prime Minister has today talked about the suffering of the ordinary people in Afghanistan over the last few years, and insisted that any action is only intended to be against the Taleban régime, and not cause further suffering. But how that translates into practice is yet to be seen. With Christian love, Jules |
