But I have no time for the economic blockade argument - it hasn't removed Saddam Hussein after 10 years, so there is no real reason to think it would have seriously inconvenienced Hitler. I remain convinced that the biblical argument does authorise the 'State' to wield the 'sword' to 'punish evil doers' - see Romans 13; it is true that there was a tradition from the early church that the Christians could not serve in the Roman army, but it is noteable that Peter doesn't suggest this when Cornelius is converted to the faith (Acts 10) and there is another tradition that this was not the case. |
