Accountability - as the word is used by support groups - means that you depend on other people to help keep you acting in the manner that you want. For example, if this were a support group for alcoholics, people here might have specially assigned buddies to whom they could turn for help if they found themselves about to break their commitment not to drink. If this were a sexual recovery group, the accountability might require members to confess to the group whenever they engaged in the type of sexual behavior that was proscribed for them.

The point of accountability in support groups is to provide the type of feedback that people in the group generally can't get from outsiders. For example, if I make a mistake in my relationship with my husband, there are lots of people aware that I'm married, so they're likely to notice and recommend that I take a second look at what I've done. But if someone here has problems with his young friend, it's unlikely that he can talk about it with any of his real-life friends and family. So this is a place where Christian boylovers can go for the type of advice that the rest of us are fortunate enough to receive routinely from our friends and family.
