I'm too tired to write a long dissertation on my opinion on where natural disasters come from, but I'll give you the short version. I don't see natural disasters as evil. Whether God uses them for a purpose or Satan uses them to torment, who can say? Or is it just how this world works? I've heard it said (and I agree) that if it weren't for pain, we wouldn't appreciate pleasure. If it weren't for sadness, we wouldn't appreciate happiness. If it weren't for death, we wouldn't appreciate life.

I think we get way too hung up on what happens to us in this world. I'm guilty of it too, so I'm not exempt. But think about it. If you believe in eternity, our time on Earth is like a nanosecond. We have been mourning the loss of life in the September 11th tragedy. Many were taken before their time. But in the grand scheme of things, what is dying 30 or more years too soon compared to eternity? Do we get mad when we lose a second of our time? Because a second, in comparison to a lifetime, is even greater than a lifetime as compared to eternity. The reason most christians hate death, is that it means we won't see that person for the rest of our lives. But when you think about it, we'll see them again in a nanosecond.
