The book ("Man Without a Face") is much better than the movie. In fact, it's really a very different story. I don't think the movie was true to the book, and after having read the book, I was very disappointed by the movie. The movie was a product of recent fears over child molestors, while the book had none of that in it since it was written in the 1960s, before these fears became so prominent. Instead, the book was about a very intriguing and intense relationship between a boy and his tutor, and how it interacted with his troubled relationship with his family. Mark |
