Hi Jack, I have usually ended up friendly with the son's of my adult friends or with boys with whom I work. In the former case, obviously the friendship with the adult came first. In the latter case, parents usually recognize the value of the work that I do with children and therefore are pretty supportive. This being said, it is rare that I have a one-on-one friendship with a particular boy. Back in High School and college I got hurt too many times (ie - the friendships would eventually end after the summer) and stopped forming one on one relationships. (It is no wonder now that I am having so much trouble with my girlfriend.) Nevertheless, I guess I am kind of lucky in that I have always related well to adults as well as children. Having been well educated and successful in my career has certainly helped. You are not alone. Love, Ben |
