Dear Andy,

Thanks for your feedback, I am glad to hear that you have enjoyed the posts between Splash! and myself. Thanks also for sharing the posts with Chris, since he too found them edifying. Indeed, typology is a fascinating subject and one of the many proofs of the Bible truly being God’s word. I would love to hear some of the typologies that you think are interesting and here’s a cool one right at the beginning of Genesis:

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Genesis 1:3

The penetration of sunlight through the dark, primordial earthen atmosphere is seen by Paul as a type of Christ’s light in our hearts:

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6

Jesus called Himself ‘the Light of the World’ (cf. John 8:12; 9:5) and He is also spoken of as such in direct connection with creation:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

John 1:1-9

While appealing to contemporary scientific facts should be done cautiously, there is one unique scientific property of light that has an interesting theological parallel. Light travels at constant velocity, regardless of whether something is approaching or retreating from it. Likewise, only God is constant and never changing in His being. Since Jesus is God, He shares this divine attribute and the title of ‘Light of the World’ (with a parallel to its constant velocity) is most appropriate and ingenious:

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Hebrews 13:8

Take care and God bless,
J
