Latest 'My Anti-Drug' Ad

The theme of this latest anti-drug ad is ‘Family’.

If you’ve seen the ad, you’ll probably know what I’m talking about; if not, hopefully you’ll come across it soon. It’s on the back of the January 2002 edition of the WWF Magazine (at least it is where I live). All I can say is ‘Thank God for cool sisters!’ because she’s the one who pointed it out to me, knowing that my jaw would drop when I saw it – and it definitely did!

It’s a black-and-white portrait shot of two boys, brothers, both dressed in black shirts. The older of the two boys is on the left, his younger brother on the right. The older boy kind of reminds me of Jonathan Taylor Thomas when he was thirteen and had his hair long (though this boy’s hair isn’t quite that long). His little brother (maybe a couple years younger) has this adorable haircut where it’s like straight and a little spiky at the very top. And their beautiful eyes will melt your heart.

Okay, the beauty of these two boys aside…

Underneath the older boy is a monologue in caption, which is repeated under the younger boy in mimic fashion – it reads:

I like wrestling.
.....I like wrestling.
I think cartoons are for kids.
.....I think cartoons are for kids.
I grind handrails.
.....I grind handrails.
I don’t smoke weed. It’s not my thing.
.....I don’t smoke weed. It’s not my thing.

Then at the bottom of the page, it says:

He’s your little brother. Don’t do anything you wouldn’t want him doing.

Moment of silence . . . . . awwwwww!

This is truly one of the sweetest magazine ads I’ve seen in a very long time. The message I’d like to convey to the board would be: “He’s your young friend. Don’t do anything you wouldn’t want him doing.” God has given some of you an awesome responsibility in being a positive role model to help shape a young boy into a man of God, and the power of His Spirit to accomplish that task. May God bless each of you and your YF's as you seek to do His will.

In Christ,
J
