Well, I have a few opinions and ideas on this matter. The first thing is that since the kids have been told that your word is law, asking one of them to sit by you is more of a command than a request, and I have a problem with that. Personally, I would let them sit by me if they chose, but wouldn't make a point of asking them to.

As far as sitting in your lap, there are a few things to consider. I love to have boys sit in my lap also, and if they climb in your lap of their own accord, fine. But sometimes this can cause me to become sexually aroused (get an erection). If this happens, I think it best to do what Ben suggests. Give them a hug and put them beside you.

In the case where you say that the parents sometimes consider the kids to be "mawling" you and tell them to get away, there are a couple possibilities. The parents may indeed think the kids are bothering you and are simply trying to help you out. But if this was the case, I think it would be more likely that they ask you if you mided it, either at the time, or later privately. The more likely reason they chase the kids off you is that the parents aren't comfortable with it, but don't want to offend you.

So my advice would be the same as Ben's. I wouldn't bring it up, either.
