YES -- distractions help!

My distraction is writing. Specifically, for two years I have written and published a daily diary online as a confused gay teen trying to find his way in the world. Whoa, you say!

You see, something wonderful happened in the first two months while I was writing. A very young teen wrote me. He claimed that reading about "my life" (of the ficticious teen) helped him realize that his suicidal thoughts and attempts were wrong. He could continue living and looking forward to life every day. He claimed that the diary saved his life.

YES -- my distraction had a purpose for me and him and...... I keep writing.
