I'd say my beliefs are a combination of 1 and 2. The Scriptures point to God, who can then be experienced as in #1. I would point out that the "Direct Revelation" is also the goal of the mystic, which isn't something open to all, although the Hesychasists would say everyone can attempt it. And of course, the Scriptures are the means of knowing whether an alleged "revelation" is from God or not. If it doesn't agree with Scripture, it can't be from God. And I better stop now before I start lecturing. |
