I have also heard the argument that the centurian's servant was a beloved boy. One of the arguments that I see in favor of this being purely speculative is the proximity of this (Luke 7:1) to the healing of the widows son (Luke 7:11). In the former story, it is unclear as to the age of the servant at home, whereas in the latter it is quite clear that it is a boy. Had Luke known well that it was a young boy, why didn't he make it as clear as he did that the widows son was a boy? In all likelyhood, nobody knew for sure since Jesus didn't actually have to go the Centurians house anyway. The boy was healed by the Centurian's faith.
