J - I have also heard the argument that the centurian's servant was a beloved boy. One of the arguments that I see in favor of this being purely speculative is the proximity of this (Luke 7:1) to the healing of the widows son (Luke 7:11). In the former story, it is unclear as to the age of the servant at home, whereas in the latter it is quite clear that it is a boy. Had Luke known well that it was a young boy, why didn't he make it as clear as he did that the widows son was a boy? In all likelyhood, nobody knew for sure since Jesus didn't actually have to go the Centurians house anyway. The boy was healed by the Centurian's faith. You are not alone. Love, Ben |
