Just for the record I didn't grow up in any church. As a reminder to those who are fairly new hear, I grew up wearing a kippah and reciting the sh'ma. I had my bar mitzvah at thirteen and didn't have a single inkling that God was anything more than a neat story that my ancestors wrote stories about. I didn't have any rules in my house, other than to not beat up on my siblings too badly, not burn the house down, don't shoot anyone, stuff like that. I grew up without any religion at all.

My church might be called fundamentalist and yet I, as a boylover, was attracted to it. There are churches which understand Christianity the way that I think Jesus meant it to be. Lets face it, the most easily recognized scripture in the bible, John 3:16, sums it up for me. God loved us, he wanted to show it, he wanted to forgive us, he sacrificed his most precious possession for us. Not all Christianity is the kind of Christianity that has turned people off. Jesus said in Mark 2:17, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners". I have heard leaders in my church say enough times, "I am not here to follow a church, or a pope or a person. It is God and Jesus that I am here to follow." I have always appreciated this and I believe that Christianity has radically improved my life. And YES I am still a sinner....not to mention still a BL.

You are not alone.

Love,
Ben
