You are unlikely to find a BL who did not begin masturbating at an early age. You are also probably unlikely to find a straight man who didn't begin masturbating at an early age. Actually, I met in person a BLer who didn't masturbate until he was an adult. Of course, you and I are both engaging in speculation, since we haven't looked at any research to support what we're saying. I am well aware of the fact that MANY MANY boys masturbate from early ages and turn out fine. There are many people who drink beer at the age of 12 and do not become alcoholics either. I smoked like a chimney at age 15 and never smoked again. You get the point, I think. I find it very troubling to make an analogy between masturbation and smoking or drinking. I believe the former is a natural part of our makeup as humans, while the latter is introducing a foreign substance into our bodies which is destructive. There is no evidence that masturbation is harmful. (Of course, superstition used to claim it was, saying it caused blindness, stunted growth, etc.) I am not saying that it MUST lead to sexual problems, but that it can become an enslaving habit. Well, I suppose eating can become an enslaving habit, too. I think the addiction comes from other psychological sources, not from the masturbation/eating itself. I believe that the longer a child can remain a child, not needing or endulging in sexual feelings, the better off they are. Wow! I think every person who has studied human sexuality has found that children have sexual feelings from a very young age, throughout history, and across cultures. Being a child certainly does not been being asexual. Being innocent doesn't mean having no sexual feelings, or not masturbating. Sexual feelings are not bad, sick, or harmful, regardless of whether one is a child, an adolescent, or an adult. They are a normal part of being human. Mark |
