Hey tigris, Thanks for asking. I have been praying like crazy about this and it seems that God has really moved. I called his mom today and introduced myself as the friend of TJs uncle. We (his mom & I) really hit it off right away. She really does want what is right for him and she is really down to earth and easy to talk to. She was a bit unnerved that TJ had been hanging out with me when she thought he was over visiting with his grandfather & uncle, but after we talked she said, "Okay, I feel better now." So, TJ apparently got a "D" in EVERY class this quarter and has been lying to his mom constantly. She said that she has grounded him until further notice and she doesn't know what to do with him. She and I set up a time to meet next week, to talk about a plan. I am confident that she is willing to allow me to mentor TJ, the problem is that TJ is very manipulative, and will probably fight anything that does not bring him short term thrills. I do believe that he and I could have a great relationship, but a mentoring situation would take alot of patience and would be filled with ups and downs. His mom also told me that she isn't too hot on him going to church. I told her that I would respect that and that my offering did not have strings attached to it. Hopefully, she will be open to further spiritual talks at another time. If I can build a relationship of love and trust with TJ, I believe that I can help him. Right now, I can only pray that God leads me to wisdom in how to help this kid. I also pray for alot of strength. A relationship with so much up and down is going to take a heavy toll on me, I am sure. There is no way around the fact that I am attached to TJ, and on days that he fights me, I'll hurt. So, thats where things stand right now. I recognize the fact that this may start very slow and that I probably wont see him for a few weeks. In God's time.... You are not alone. Love, Ben |
