When you get involved in a boy's life, does your desire to build relationships with other boys go away? -- tigris

For me, I think it depended upon why I was focused on one particular boy. When I was able to have a good close relationship with my YF, his younger brother didn't seem as important to me. I felt very guilty for not giving his younger brother the same amount of attention. Then when my YF and I grew distant because of an arguement or something, I felt myself becoming closer to his younger brother. Also, once I had a YF who was a big part of my life, I didn't care to look for having relationships with boys anywhere else. It may have been because my YF was the most beautiful boy I'd seen, and that he was smarter than anyone else his age. Also, he was a lot of fun, and he liked me a lot too. What more did I need?

But now, not having a YF in my life, I find myself thinking a lot more about the effect I have on boys at work. I really don't have ONE favorite. I have a lot of them. One is funnier than the others. One is more handsome. One is smarter. One is a better helper. Etc. I like a lot of them, mostly for different reasons, but I see them in the same light -- all as boys that have potential to do something great with their lives. That keeps me interested, and motivates me into affecting some kind of good into their lives.

If things work out with TJ, he will most likely become my focus. Somehow I am already preparing myself for the pain that is ahead....but he needs help so much, I am ready to suffer for this. -- Ben

God bless you, Ben, in the work you will be doing with TJ. I know you will do what is right for him, even if you have to suffer because of it. Keep your eyes on the purpose behind it all, and know TJ may not thank you until many years down the road. But how great will be that day? Especially when it's the Lord thanking you for the service you've given.
