Too many innocent people die trying to combat terrorism using peaceful means alone. Ghandi and MLK were not fighting the same battle against the same type of people we are today. I am very much in favor of using peaceful means to resolve conflicts whenever possible. I believe in "turning the other cheek" as the Bible teaches whenever that would work. But the Bible is also full of all out wars to solve conflicts also. The type of people we have to deal with today only laugh at nonviolent attempts to curb their terror. They consider it weakness and only kill more innocents when their terror goes unchallenged. If we had tried using only nonviolent means of protest during the American revolution, we would still be under England's rule. If we do as you suggest and simply not give in to the demands of terrorists with no retaliation, they will simply kill, and kill, and kill some more. This is exactly what they have been doing because they don't like the way we live and we refuse to stop supporting Isreal. They don't put the same value on life that we do. The radical Islamics (not the genuine Islamics) do not want our food. They do not want our education. And they certainly do not want our love. They want our utter defeat and our death. I have had a long time to get over September 11th, and this isn't an opinion based on emotion. I would love to be able to solve this problem without more killing. But I see no logical recourse. I think times like these calls for walking softly, but carrying a big stick. Dakota |
