Bisexuality is much more common, and pederasty has generally taken place in cultures where bisexuality is the norm. In cultures like that, the 7-10% figure is simply ridiculous, if it refers to practice. If it refers to innate inclination, that's something that might be affected by cultural factors, so projecting twentieth-century American figures for exclusive homosexual attraction back onto other cultures doesn't make any sense. So I echo your summary of what Feierman says later: "Pedo- and ephebophilia will be fully understood only with the addition of history, anthropology, and biology to the very fine work that already has been done in psychology and sociology. No one discipline has the complete answer to this issue, and the complete picture will require a large amount of interdisciplinary collaboration." |
