A bunch of us chained ourselves to vehicles once at the headquarters of a certain drug company. Well, I should make clear that I didn't take part in being chained. I was in the in another part of the Action. THey thought they'd won when the started to move the trucks and some of our guys and women started to scream in pain. What they didn't count on was the fact that we were EXCELLENT at getting reporters and photographers to come with us. What they also didn't count on is that the people who were chained all had lovers with end stage AIDS. They did NOT compromise. They let the police beat them and they would NOT unchain themselves. The publicity was great and we saw a major reduction in the price of that drug just 9 days later. Shame is a wonderful tactic as long as one is courageous enough to use it unflinchingly. |
