Crowley and his tongue-in-cheek humour...

has caused more problems than it solved, believe me...

Students of Crowley know quite clearly that what he actually was referring to in those passages was an act of ritual masturbation, not an act of human sacrifice...

"The boy of perfect intelligence" is to be sacrificed prior to his conception, in the form of semen spilled during the masturbatory ritual...

Crowley's reason for putting it in those terms was to underline the fact that, during the deeply sexually inhibited Victorian era in which he lived, writing about masturbation was illegal, while writing about the sacrifice of children was not...

His choice of words in that passage was, therefore, a darkly sardonic comment on society's schiozophrenia, that it would condemn the harmless and pleasurable act of masturbation while turning a blind eye to somethinmg as TRULY horrific as the sacrifice of a human child...

But, once again...even 60 years later...his tongue-in-cheek humour is lost on most, who take it quite literally and have condemned his a Satanist ever since...

Crowley was a much more deeply spiritual man than many would ever imagine him to have been...

Having been a student of Crowley's writings for many years, I'm currently engaged in the challenge of reconciling his philosophy with that of the philosopher Jesus of Nazareth...

and making great strides, too!

What is Crowley's (in)famous:

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law
love is the law
love under will

but a slightly different rephrasing of Jesus':

Love one another as you love yourselves and do unto others as you would have them do unto you

Same essential philosophic statement, accent on a slightly different syllable..

The emphasis in Crowley's statement is on "self" while the emphasis in Jesus' is on "other"...

I'd enjoy going into it more with you, if you want, but feel I should stop there for the moment...

much love!
John
