but the answer lies in the fact that we are always upset when a friend moves away - even if we will get to see them again eventually. It's a more extreme example of that - or should be. If a person has played a significant part in your life, making it a more positive experience (yuk - but you know what I mean) then their departure leaves a hole, regardless of the timescale associated with when they will be back in it.

Does that make any sense?
