It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. Having been on both sides of the coin on this one, I don't know whether I agree with it - in fact, most of the times I find it harder to reflect back on what I had but lost than it was before I met my young friend and dreamt of what could be. But I do understand what you're trying to say, and it is nice (if I can temporarily block out what eventually transpired) to think back to all of the wonderful times my young friend and I shared together.
