having rightly been challenged for the content and tone of what I've said over the past few days, I need space to work out exactly what's gone wrong and why. Which are less than trivial questions... It wouldn't be right to offer a total retraction - it's not that I don't believe those things, more a question of how far they should have been posted like that and on this forum. To repost what I said in 'I was wrong to go so far last night' - though with some further clarification: He just doesn't realize how insulting [his comments] are Yeah - that's definately fair comment; I don't react particularly emotionally to people trying to get at me, and so I tend to forget that others don't have my thick skin. Clearly on these occaisions I got it wrong... From Ender's Shadow: Bean did not let his fleeting needs and passions control his actions. Did that make him alien? For those of you who've read the book, I find a worryingly large amount of Bean in me (and if you haven't, get 'Ender's Game' first, and then 'Ender's Shadow' - and read probably the best 'Science Fiction' ever written - AND it's about boys :-) I was in Jerusalem recently with friends resident out there who have boys, and I guess seeing the place where "Muslim" suicide bombers blew up 14 and 15 year olds hasn't improved my attitude to Islam... To repeat what I said earlier: We will be surprised by who gets to heaven, and who doesn't. I have no doubt that many from a non-Christian background who have realised their total dependence on God will be there, and many 'Christians' who slipped into thinking they were doing OK and didn't need God anymore will lose out. I have great hopes that in practice many Muslims will be found to have cast themselves on the mercy of God, and will be found among us on the last day. So - Rahiim and Foxfire - I guess you pushed a button with the phrase about worshipping the same god. I hope I haven't detered you entirely from this board. |
