As an aside, it's interesting to note that early in his life, Gandhi forsook the principal of Ahimsa (non killing). In South Africa, he encouraged his neighbors to kill the poisonous snakes that infested their homes and gardens. This eventually lead him to a rejection of the principal in its entirety. He came to believe that killing other beings, even other people, could be necessary and appropriate. |
