If Christians in Germany had been living by the (S)pirit behind the MLK quote, there would have been no need for violence to remove Hitler. He simply could not have come into power in the first place. Granted, this is an argument from silence -- we cannot know what MIGHT have happened. If we're going to play the game of historicism, it gets very tangled very quickly.
