In reply to Romans 13 again... submitted by Dirk on March 7 2002 22:13:29

I'm afraid I'm not sure what you are asking. I originally replied because you seemed to take my first post to mean I supported the terrorists. Then I thought you were debating whether violence is ever justified. Now your talking about obeying the governing authorities. I'm afraid I'm lost.

You can't take one part of scripture, such as in Romans 13 about paying your taxes, and conclude that it is always wrong to rebel against them. Just like you can't take the later part of Romans 13 where it talks about loving each other, or the scripture about turning the other cheek, and conclude there is never a time for violence.

I know there are bad cops, but police are necessary. I know innocents get killed in war, but it is sometimes necessary. I can't quote scripture to justify the US response to 9/11. It's just my opinion.

If you can narrow it down to exactly what we are talking about here, I'll try to answer any questions or at least give my view. But it seems we are kinda going off in several directions at once.
