Natural exposure

The whole *reason* (in my eyes) that sex education is required is because there is no other context where kids are allowed to ask about it.

Most 8 year olds are just forumlating the question "where did I come from?" and they deserve and answer.

It's only through parents and media who have been taught that this type of discussion is "dirty" that they shy away from it asd ask the school to do it.

Frankly, I don't favor sex-ed in school. I think the fundamental problem is deeper.

I know many 13yo boys who are not interested in sex at all. I also know many 7yo boys who are but have never been taught anything about it, so they'll hump a pole, a pillow or whatever. I'm definately not saying that there's something wrong with humping inanimate objects. It's perfectly normal to get it on with a pillow at that age I think. I can't say I did it, but I brought it up in a discussion with some friends and most said they did. There is a natural urge to relieve sexual tension.

As for sex ed. I think it's a rotten thing. The only reason it is in place is because kids are trained at a young age that talking about "That" is dirty or shameful and they FEAR to ask their parents about it for fear of being shooed away or rejected.

Ask any 10yo kid if they could ask their parents about sex and see what the reaction is. It will probably be something like "no way, they'd kill me!" or "ewwwwwwww!!"

In the days before sex-ed and the stigmatization of "youth" sexuality, it was quite common to become sexually involved immediately following puberty. I look at stories like Romeo and Juliet as just one small (albiet cliche) example, where both were likely aged 13-15.

In fact, wasn't the Mary Magdeline supposedly 13 or 14?

Keep in mind that the average age of pubery before 1600 was closer to 14 or 15 (instead of 11 like it is now).

I guess that may not be an ideal example because the younger girls were often taken by older men, but the fact remains that these "kids" likely had begun puberty within months or just a couple years before becoming "historical headlines" with their stoires. Even if Romeo was partially ficitcious.

All I know is that humans (like most animals) generally become interested in sex within a few months of the onset of puberty. Keep in mind that puberty doesn't start with the growth of pubic hair- it's usually year or more before that. But in any case, the feelings begin earlier for some and later for others.

In any case, the kids may often not understand their feeligs right away if not taught what to make of them. Unfortunately, in our society, they are taught to hide them away from 'the adults' for fear of being shamed by them.

Of course, if not taught, nobody would learn to speak, write, read or use tools. So teaching *is* an integral part of humanity and can't be denied. I just think that we go about it the wrong way, teaching it in such an institutionalized environment. (Church is another thing that is horrabily maligned by existing in a similar instatiutionalized enviornment).

Just my opinion.
