My posts may not be as long as Sally's, but I do tend to start going on like a college professor sometimes. This, I'm afraid, is one of those times. Recite the exact words from god that make it a sin This will depend a lot on just which canon you're willing to accept, as well as the interpretation of those portions of the canon involved in this discussion. It may not be condemned specifically in what is contained in the mainline Protestant canon, but are you familiar with the canon used by the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox? At the same time, some books and epistles were considered part of the canon by portions of the Church and not by others. Barnabas, for instance was considered canonical by the Alexandrians, Origen, and the Codex Sinaiticus. Shall I appeal to these sources as the canon or do you reject it because it's not part of your canon? Likewise the early church (circa 2nd to 3rd Century) used the Didache as a catachism and part of the Didache was probably used as a pre-Christian Jewish catechism for proselytes. Barnabas and the Didache both speak against "paidophthoreo" corrupting boys through sex. Hence, the atitude of the early church was that sex with boys was a sin, no greater a sin than theft or murder, but a sin nevertheless. I better stop before I bore everyone to death, but I can quote Barnabas if you desire |
