Sally,
I would like to believe, and have at many times during my life, that your likening to drug addiction is correct. For my part, I am struggling, I do struggle. At one time in my life, I voluntarily underwent behavior therapy, at my family's expense (they didn't know what they were paying for, but they graciously agreed to help me pay for whatever therapy I thought I needed). At another time, I joined SAA, and tried that way to change my orientation. And then became a Christian three years ago, and once again believed that my orientation could change. I still do believe that it CAN change, but that doesn't mean that God will change me. I guess I would like to see more evidence of people really changing. The cases are VERY VERY scarce, leading one to believe that there is not a solution which seems to be helping very many people. Perhaps the few that are helped, were not really pedophiles at all, but people who were abused and were acting out of resolved conflict rather than true orientation.

Most importantly, whether or not God can change us (and believe me, I want to believe this!), Paul said that we were 'cleaned and santified' meaning that we are FORGIVEN, not that we are HEALED. Jesus only healed people so that they would believe. There were many that he never needed to heal because they came to their faith anyway.

I have seen Jesus change many a drug and alcohol addict and I stand in awe of your accomplishment. I know that it has been a tremendous road for you. Unfortunately, I haven't seen many pedophiles changed....in fact I haven't seen any.

You are not alone.

Love,
Ben
