Interesting article in Time

An article at time.com on pedophilia seems reasonably fair and includes some statistics that I had never heard before, such as:

Half of child sexual abusers are the parents of the victims; other relatives commit 18% of the offenses. And the sad truth is that preventing incest is nearly impossible. Less than one-third of perpetrators know their victims from outside the home. But non-family abusers may be easier to pick out....

Another first was seeing them acknowledge that many sexual abuse offences against children are committed by non-pedophiles - something which we knew, but the public likes to ignore.

A psychiatric diagnosis of pedophilia merely indicates one's desires; not all pedophiles act on their urges and actually commit child sexual abuse. Plenty of sexual abuse of kids is committed by ordinary people not generally attracted to children. That's one reason the incidence of child sexual abuse is so maddeningly high.

I would like to have seen some statistics on the relative number of offenses committed by "ordinary" people versus child-lovers.

It is beginning to look like my yf is safer with me than he is at home! But, I knew that.

Peace,

Nate
