Blessed Pascha, Dirk!

I attended a Vespers service Saturday morning (*you'll* have to explain to everyone why it was in the morning), and it was very nice - we had two chrismations, which impressed me yet again with the degree of ceremony in Orthodoxy: first the seven-fold application of oil (with the male candidate barefoot so that his feet could be chrismated), then they had holy water *flung* in their face, and then the oil was ritually dabbed up with a cotton ball (wonder what was used in the era before cotton balls), and *then* the candidates had their hair snipped. Oh, and the number of vows they had to make was also impressive. I just had to renounce the world and the Devil, not adhere to the Seven Ecumenical Councils and say that yes, I understood the purpose of icons. Heather [E-mail]   [Home Page]
