In Old Testament times, your god (and since it's a Holy Trinity, that includes Jesus) was a genocidal war criminal.

If we live according to the Law, we die by the Law. You've heard it many times before -- the wages of sin is death. But Jesus fulfilled that Law by paying those wages of sin with His death as a sacrifice for mankind on the cross. Thus, the New Covenant began. We are no longer required to live by the Law as in Old Testament times. That's how much He loves us.
