I have certainly struggled during my Christian life to hold the bible as inspired by God. This being said, I have taken 2 Timothy 3:16 (All Scripture is Godbreathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness) very seriously as well as other scriptures which hold the bible to be inspired. Really as I have gotten older, I have become more and more confident that the bible is God's word. No other book has been as painstakingly copied over so many thousands of years and been proven again and again to be as accurate as the bible. No book has had so great an impact on lives, has been printed so much, in so many languages and in so many translations. If you read some of the laws in Leviticus, you have an overwhelming understanding of pathology that people in those days simply could not have known about. You have a guidebook for life that has been so tried and true, it has yet to be truly controverted (and yes, people DO spread lies that it has been but they fail to provide the evidence).

What is not clear however is that it is an accurate historical document, though most believe that it is based on history. God didn't necessarily need for each story to actually happen for us to learn from what happened. For all we know, much of the bible is fabrication, but it is still created so that we can understand God. Jesus told many stories (parables) that intended to teach us lessons, but which didn't necessarily take place. It doesn't make them less useful.

You are not alone.

Love,
Ben
