I suspect that the major reason "evangelism" is largely ineffectual these days is that would-be evangelists are answering questions which people aren't asking any more. I realize this is slightly different from your own comment -- for instance, I was intrigued by your reading of the "lust" passage. Thinking about it a little, I was able to see it as an amplification of the 9th Commandment, rather than anything explicitly about sexuality. The connection between the preceding two paragraphs is simply this: much of what goes by the name of Christianity may in fact have very little to do with it. Before expressing the challenges of Jesus, we must take care that we understand what they actually are... To the extent that this is the case, "we" may be talking past "them" more often than we realize -- the exchange with A.I. Watcher being a case in point. I appreciated your comments to him, and your thoughtful response to the article on Taoism, etc. Dirk
