Given British employment law, you can only be sacked for cause, which must be proved on the balance of probabilities. If your present employer accepts that you were sacked for abuse of the internet, then the issue is over the nature of the material you were looking at. It then becomes for them to demonstrate that it was unacceptable. Unless they have records of what you looked at, they can't begin to do that. Therefore it is unlikely that you can be got at over it.

It's moments like that when membership of a union is helpful.... having joined at my work when things went wrong generally for us, I've found in a big organisation the union people can be helpful. If you aren't a member, you need to consider going to a lawyer to clarify the legal situation. The alternative is to talk to your personnel / human resources people; they should be able to provide some advice.
