I don't know how knowledgeable I really am. I haven't gone to seminary, but I do read a lot (an occupational hazard for librarians). I pick up one book and that leads me to another and that leads me to a third and so forth. That's how I'm learning Greek.

I don't know what level you're at right now in your studies of Christianity, so I fear any books I might recommend will be more my own personal taste and probably won't fit yours. Try your local library first. The history of Christianity will be in the 274-279 section, divided geographically, if it uses the DDC. If need be, maybe the library can help through the ILL (inter Library Loan).

There should be a large bookstore, like Barnes and Noble, in your neighborhood. This would be a good start. Look around the section on religion and see if there's any books that catch your eye. The Barnes and Noble near my home has several easy chairs so you can sit down and look through a book. If it seems like something you'd be interested in and can afford, buy it. If it's something that does interst you, but it's beyond your budget, maybe your local public library can help
