| The motive is not very clear. The brothers claimed abuse was the motive, but the abuse they talked about was stupid (emotional abuse like staring them down). It may be that Alex knew that as long as his father was around he couldnt live with Ricky (whom he loved) but that doesnt explain why his brother Derek would be in on the plot. So, as far as motive, I dont know. What I do know is there is evidence this was planned beforehand, so the motive was probably not a moment of anger.
