Innocence in a background of beauty

Saturday was spent in a fairly ancient town. I sat on a seat by a large cathedral, surrounded by grass, with stedents, young & old talking. Two boys, with their parents were wandering around, barefoot, both about 8 & 9yo, brothers, innocent, in everything they did. Both dressed in white or light clothing. I watched them walk along the wall, on the grass, on the pavements, on the grills that lead up to the path. Carefree, lightly tanned, exploring their environment. Also during this time, a group of scateboard kids, aged 10-13, practiced stunts off the pavement onto the grass. The blonde kid, the oldest, performed a "camera stunt", he'd ride to the edge of the wall & just tumble down onto the grass as if he'd had an accident & just lay there. His friend would then apologise to several passersby, as if they were trying to make it look realistic. It was comical & they got some looks as they continued their game. I wanted to guide them to make it look better. Maybe I wanted to join in their fun & perhaps take them all on at once in playful wrestling, I don't know. The two barefoot boys, then went passed the scateboarders, walked close to where I was sitting. So I got a better look at them. A few minutes before a ladybird (insect with red back & black spots), was walking along my fingers & across my hand. I studied it as it cleaned it's legs & occasionally stretched its wings. I eventually placed it amongst the flowers to feed on aphids. Perhaps if I'd kept it longer, the boys, who were looking for insects in the grass might've stopped for a chat. Nevermind eh. They then went over to the church, where they walked along the path surrounding it & then lifted up one of the paving slabs, after digging at it to get a better grip. This time more people stopped to look & it also brought a mild telling off from mum & dad, who were sitting nearby. When the scaters had gone, I left walked back to the train station & headed home with my memories of the day. TTYL - Halo |
