Pondering,

Your nickname can only mean that you are pondering what you have seen on other sites. But my question remains this: Did you research the information that you saw on these sites for yourself? Or did you take them as fact without checking it out yourself?

Before I accepted Christ as my Savior, I had many doubts, similar to yours. I spent 5 years researching the facts. I did not use the bible as a sole source of information, but researched the avaible information on the then enpowered Roman Government. (When I say "then" I mean at the time the bible was written and the time that Jesus was here.)

Setting aside the biblical facts (and not meaning to say that they should be discarded, but for the sake of my example I will not refer to it execpt for time tables) I looked at the historical records. The bible tells of the Star that led the wise men to where Jesus was born. Historical astorological records from the time show that there was an unusual event that occured for a period of two weeks, gorwing brighter each night. A match.

The bible tells of the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalm and the eventsthat lead to His arrest. The records from Roman Government have detailed descriptions of the affect that Jesus was having on the Jews and how they (the Jewish Leaders) had requested that the government intervien and arrest Him. A match.

The bible tells of Jesus driving the money changers out of the temple. The Roman records tell of Roman sholders being dispatched to the temple to stop a riot. But they were not allowed to enter the temple, as was the law at the time. Another match.

Then there are the events telling of the arrest and the Sentencing of Jesus that are described in the bible. (Read them in any of the Gospels, but I think that the books of John and Luke best decribe the events.)From His arrest to his being brought before Pilate and then Herod and then sent back to Pilate. The Roman records tell of a Jew by the name of Jesus being brought to Pilate, with a record of the conversations, what we would be called a transcript today. How Pialate sent Jesus to Herod. There are records from the guards showing the dispacth and arrival of Jesus. There are also records of Herod's meeting with Jesus. And that Jesus "...gave no answer to the questions put to him, remaining silent through the questioning." There are records of Herod sending Jesus back to Pialte. There are records of Pilate having Jesus flogged. There are records of Pilate giving the Jews a choice between a murder, Barabbas who had been sentenced and was to be crucified, or Jesus "..in who I find no fault." (This was in the records, not a biblical quote.) Another match.

There are records of ".. the people calling for the release of Barabbas and the arrest of Jesus." There are records of the events of the crucifion and death of Jesus. There are records of Jesus being placed in a tomb and the tomb being sealed "....with a stong that required twelve strong men to put into place. The seal of the Roman Govonor was placed upon the stone. The stone is to be guarded at all time by two guards. One guard is to be placed beside the stone, one guard os to be placed oppisite the stone. Any guard that is found asleep is to be exicuted immediatly by the sword and his body is to be removed from the city and left bare for the animals of the wild to deviour." Another match.

There are records of the tomb being found empty. A search ws conducted by the entire army throughout the entire region. There are records of the areas, villages and house that were searched, giving the names of the guards that conducted the search of each building. The bible tells of the ressurection of Christ, leaving an empty tomb and that the body was not found. Again, another match.

I could go on for a long time. But I have given you enough. I will not even begin to address the other items you discussed. I think that the post done by J (not my son, but the original J from this site) covered everything else nicely. The historical records go on for years. The records I mentioned above were not written by one person, so forget about telling me that the person who wrote was delutional. There were 15 seperate records by 15 differant people. Many people think that only one person took the records. There were at least 2 men taking the records , and often as many as 5 in public gatherings. All the records were left as they had been written and combined, sealed at the end of each day in a metal container and placed in with other other records. These records have survived through the centuries.

I did the research. I know the truth. What's your excuse?

Mavrick.
