Armageddon postponed

Typical, you get all built up for the final battle & the enemy has a change of heart!

As El arrived for lunch yesterday, our eyes barely crossed, he sat opposite me, asked to read my paper & I let him. He told tales of what had happened during the morning shift & his workmate dismissed it with a look of unbelief. He got out his packed lunch & rolled two small cakes in my direction "I don't like these, you can have them" - "Thank U" I replied.

We did go out, firstly to play Table Tennis. There was a wait so we had time to talk. He'd calmed down a lot & asked again why I wanted his address in the first place & what emergencies I would possibly need it for. Needless to say, I had no answers, as things like that never arrive until absolutly nessessary.

He lightened up during T-tennis, we had fun, I hadn't played for years. We did go back to snooker again, I was still very edgy. Before we entered he said to me "Do you still want us to remain friends, it's up to you." I agreed, but will proceed cautiously.

During the game, the bar-tender called him up & had a very long chat with him. I got the impression that I was being ripped to shreads up there, but he sat quietly, then exchanged a few laughs with the guy. "Me & Moe are going out Friday night, cause it's his last day." - Nothing wrong with that I thought. He beat me again at snooker, but was pleasant with me.

We walked along to the arcades & sat down on a racing game. "Should I forgive you" he said "Thats down to you" I replied. He sat quietly for a few minutes & then as if a weight had lifted from his shoulders he leant over rested his head on my chest & put his arms around me saying "I've missed you Dad." It took me aback a bit, but I accepted the gesture. I watched him play the machines with a dollar he looked at me & said "You look unhappy, whats up? It's me isn't it!" - I lied & assured him everything was okay.

A few other comments during the day made me feel a bit better about the situation. Although money was involved again, The Lord blessed me with a malfunction on the cash machines. He said things like "If you come on this machine just one last time, please I'll love you forever & I'll never upset you again". I played around with the machine, which sorts itself out eventually, it's a computer program. Buttons I pushed seemed to make things work (but it was all for show I'm afraid), his reactions were fun to watch, as even I thought I was fixing the machine without knowing.

It came back online, but couldn't accept my card & kept spitting it out. "The machines empty" I said. "I need a drink badly" he said. "I can get you one free from the canteen." I said - "No, I'll get in trouble for it & so will you. I'm not on the paid meal system." He looked at me thinking & said "I don't want you to get in trouble for it." - "But I've got no money (lied)". The thought came to mind about using my card, but he was too eager for this idea & he only wanted a dollar for a coke & to use my card I would have to spend at least $7.50. So I miraculously found the $10.00 I'd been hiding from him & bought him that drink.

Yes, I was a sucker, but eventually escaped with about $2.00 to my name, after he insisted that we played the machines together again. He did hand me half of his winnings, something he does quite often.

He agreed to meet me again on Thursday, I have soccor today & will be away for at least 24 hours. His brother starts his introduction meeting today here, the 17yo smaller guy. This will add new blood to the game & perhaps this brother who doesn't really hate me, can aide me in my struggle with El.

I have read everyones replies, but I want to stick this one out. I know that I can help this kid & God changes lives & in him I trust.

Will write again soon.
