The problem is that unless you want to create a christian state, then you need to separate religion from morality if nothing else just for the purpose of creating laws that are fair to people of all religions. I guess politics is a big reason I feel I need to separate morality from religion. I dont feel right telling someone that what they do is wrong only because my God says so. Instead Ill leave that up to them and their personal relationship with God. If they ask my opinion on whether something is sinful or not then Ill give it to them straight, but thats different from asking me if I think something is immoral or not. Eating in excess (gluttony) is biblically sinful, but morally you are hurting no one but yourself, so it isnt immoral. I know that in the end we will all be judged by the same God, but I feel we need to let him do the judging, not us. I guess I agree with your statement, you can remove religion but you cannot remove God, that is true..but to be fair to all people we need to let God do the judging and limit ourselves to the concepts of right and wrong that will best keep people of all religious views at peace. Thats why I separate it. Of course I have my personal opinions on whether certain things are sinful or not, but those opinions are personal (they are between me and God) and not to be applied globally to all people.
