Actually, there are four. :-) A little bit of cut-and-paste from what someone else wrote on this subject a long time ago... Eros - romantic love. This is desire, yearning, and sexual attraction. Eros is ruling when we claim to be in love. Agape - unconditional, selfless, spiritual love, perhaps like that of a child for a mentor - a sense of awe and admiration goes with this love - perhaps like the love that we feel for Christ. Philos - love of friends, a brotherly love for fellow mankind. Not sexual, and it's on equal footing - not like Agape where one is filled with admiration. Like-minded love, like two friends having a deep discussion on the meaning of life. Storge - instinctual love, like that of a parent for their child - the love that would make a mother do anything to protect their child, even sacrificing themself. He wrote more on this... I can paste the whole thing if someone wants me to. Genghis |
