Biological errors. Hmmm, Our genes are constantly going through countless combinations of patterns involving how we human beings are constructed and wired. Naturally, this gives many variations. Some people have red hair some people have brown hair. Etc.

But the term "defect" to refer to left handed-ness is pretty stupid. Thinking in Darwinian terms, Variations in our genes are the key to progress, naturally some screwups occur, for instance one extra chromosone can give a person Down Syndrome. There are defect that occur, but I would define defect as something that impedes the success of that particular being, making them less likely to reproduce and hence removing those variations from the gene pool. It's just contructs that don't work, but the mistakes sort themselves out, according to the theory of evolution. (Human society tends to circumvent this by eliminating eugenic practices, with good reason)

Certainly in Darwinian terms homosexuality is a defect, as it impedes the ability to reproduce. It is interesting though that homosexuality has been observed in many species of animals (Even lesbianism in apes) and lions in captivity tend to masturbate, as those animals, being the most virile mammals in the world, have low tolerence for celibacy.

But to call left-handed-ness a defect just doesn't make sense. Sure it is a variation on the norm, but it doesn't in any way hinder the functions of life or reproduction. It makes no difference (we are, after all, almost symetrical beings) except for little kids teasing lefties and novelty store items.

Did you know that people also tend to favor certain feet as well as hands? This can be seen by the first foot someone uses to begin walking or climbing a ladder and is very prevalent in soccer. Of course, I don't hear anyone teasing left-feeties...
