I have heard an interesting theory concerning left-handedness. Obviously, 2000 years ago (or even before) there were no guns and bombs. When they fought, soldiers and other people mainly used swords. According to this theory, left-handed people had the advantage when fencing just because they were a minority. They nearly always fought against right-handed people, so they were aware of this and were well-trained. Right-handed people, however, did not expect to fight against a left-handed person. So, when they met a left-handed fighter, they were not prepared, lacked agility and nearly always lose the fight. Left-handedness, however, also has drawbacks (I can't remember which). These drawbacks plus the advantage above should cause a sort of equilibrium which results in a somewhat constant percentage of left-handed people. WP |
